The Atlantic Youth project

• Atlantic Youth is an Erasmus plus project "Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices - Strategic partnerships for school education”

• It has been carried out from September 2017 to the end of 2020.

• The objective is to develop an inclusive maritime and nautical education at school with a strong contribution to the educational project, accessibility for all students and an
affordable cost

• The project has been implemented by

6 partners from Portugal, Spain, France, United Kingdom and Ireland:

o Center of Moulin Mer (Sea class center - FR)
o Cornwall marine Network (NUT 3 Development Agency - UK)

1 Associated partner: Scuola di vela Mal di Mare, Italy

• The public is the pupils and teachers of 7 associated secondary schools (12-15 years old), including students with physical difficulties, socialization problems, dropping out of school, etc.

• There have been 5 activity sites with a "local Atlantic Youth team", each comprising one or more schools, stakeholders in maritime and nautical education, communities and Project partners:
o Ayamonte (City - ES)
o Minho-Lima (NUT 3 - PT)
o Landerneau-Daoulas (District - FR)
o Cornwall (NUT 3 - UK)
o Clare County (NUT 3 - IRL)

• The action plan
o Development of 3 annual cycles of innovative maritime educative sessions included in the school program (from September 2017 to October 2020)
o 3 week-long transnational educational events bringing together pupils and teachers from each country
o Collective production of 4 intellectual outputs for teachers, pupils and decision makers
o European conference on inclusive maritime education in 2020

• Erasmus plus support: 340 638 euros over 3 years


The Atlantic Youth Action achievements

108 local innovative sessions of inclusive maritime education have been organized in the school program, in the 5 countries, from September 2017 to October 2020.
61 modules were implemented and tested for 854 students, during 108 local sessions (the objective set in our application was 783 students).

3 week-long transnational school events in inclusive maritime education have brought together pupils and teachers from each country:
o Clare - Ireland - May 28 - June 1, 2018,
o Moulin Mer - France - May 27 - 31, 2019,
o Spread out coordinated event – October 5 – 9, 2020 (has replaced the Portuguese event, due to the sanitary crisis)
514 pupils and 78 teachers/school educators have taken part (The objective set in the candidature was 324 pupils)

4 educational tools and guides have been produced as intellectual outputs of the project :
o A video suitable for 11-15 year olds about the maritime world and its challenges. (Realization of CIM Alto Minho)
o A video adapted to students aged 11 to 15 on maritime trades and careers that directs towards online resources (Realization of Cornwall Marine Network)
o A Guide on the contribution of maritime education to the objectives of the school curriculum for groups and pupils in difficulty. (Realization of Center de Moulin Mer)
o A Guide to good practices in inclusive nautical education at school, intended for teachers and education stakeholders in cities and territories (Realization of Patronato d'Ayamonte and University of Huelva).

A European end of project video conference on inclusive maritime education on October 21, 2020. It has replaced the physical end of project conference planned in May 2020, and canceled due to the COVID 19 crisis. 65 participants
